Where The Light Gets In |
| |
|
|
Sennen’s new album, released on 26th May, combines unabashed harmonies, with lush instrumentation and some brutal guitar pieces. Produced by fan of the band, the legendary Pat Collier (House of Love, Primal Scream, Wonderstuff, My Life Story, Adorable), ‘Where The Light Gets In’ was recorded in just eight days. The result is a remarkable mix of the tunefulness of Teenage Fanclub and the maelstrom of Mogwai. The first fruit of these recordings, was the limited edition 7”, 'Blackout,' released in October 2007. The single has been championed by Zane Lowe at Radio One and John Kennedy at XFM, for whom the band have recently recorded a session.. They have also been invited as support by Editors, Explosions in The Sky, iLiKETRAiNS, and Ulrich Schnauss.

Blackout |

"With the guitars turned up to the limit and a melody that gives TV On The Radio's 'Wolf Like Me' a run for its money, this isn't just a return to form. The vocal harmonies between Laurence Holmes and Richard Kelleway still spread goose pimples up the spine, it's good to have Sennen back, and in such a seemingly unstoppable vein too. Blissful." - Drowned In Sound

Master Solo - Dancehall Music |
| |
|
|
When it comes to his music, it’s hard to pigeon hole. 'Dance Hall Music',
could as easily have been released in 1947 as 2007. It’s shaky on the old Joanna and dancing with American sweethearts. It’s the Broken Family Band without the drawling accents, or Chris TT without the politics. Firmly
routed in alternative country, Master Solo also takes inspiration from the likes of Herman Dune, Neutral Milk Hotel, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Sebadoh, and the Folk Implosion.
Dance Hall Music and Pop were recorded at the Sickroom Studios in Norfolk by Owen Turner (home to The Walk Off, the Broken Family Band, Magoo, Kaito & Bearsuit) . This is the debut single from Master Solo’s forthcoming album No Longer
Solo.

Walk Off - Vader Fader |

If The New
Wave Of New Rave really does exist itd probably soil itself several
times over, but The Walkoff show where the progression in the dance/rock
interface should be right now, i.e. somewhere very loud and fast.
This is where Squarepusher, intestine-mangling guitars, T. Raumschmiere,
Britney Spears samples, Kid 606 and dancing bears collide by the
sounds of it, literally. Result: everyone dances like theyre having
their heads kicked in whilst standing up. Ave it. DROWNED IN SOUND, 2006
Vicious
Techno pop from Oxford that references the likes of Ministry and
Aphex twin. It gives me a migrane and makes my head spin all at
once.

The
Telescopes - Winter#7 |
|
| |
|
|
Alan
McGee's Poptones label recently featured the WinterEP in their blog
on poptones.co.uk.
Here's what
they had to say about the single:"The
Telescopes first single since the release of 'Flying' on Creation
Records. 'Winter' is a trip - literally into Lawrie's celestial
world of Space and Burroughs-life-after-death-and-then-Madagascar-horns.
It opens like the scariest movie you've ever watched into scary
appergiated drones and heavy organs and horns. 'Winter' is a drug-addled-trip
into the jungle before Lawrie starts to chant, heavily, indecipherable
prayers. And then it grinds ... into psychedelia, with whip-lashes
of the pretty whip and violin from Velvet Underground's first album
capturing the essence of heavy orange skies of Winter England before
rainfall. This is a must to download.
This is what
Stephen Lawrie said: 'Out now
on Hungry Audio - first Telescopes single since Flying - like nothing
you've heard before. Recorded - Chiasso, Switzerland, Winter of
2003."
